WATCH: Zombies are invading the Warehouse District to start the Krewe of Boo festivities!
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – For many of us running can be scary, but what makes it even scarier is when zombies are chasing you.
On Saturday morning, zombies invaded the Warehouse District near Lucy’s Retired Surfers Restaurant & Bar.
Krewe of Boo kicked off the weekend festivities with the fourth annual New Orleans Zombie Run.
Runners and walkers of all ages dressed in their scariest costumes looking to escape the big easy Rollergirls who were the zombie killers.
The first lucky person to escape the two-mile zombie apocalypse terror trail was 44-year-old Sara Fritsch, who traveled from Portland, Oregon.
She wasn’t the only one heading to New Orleans for the Krewe of Boo festivities.
Rosa Resendiz, her family and friends came to New Orleans on a girls’ trip from Indiana.
“My girlfriend her mom and aunt were all from Idaho and said they all wanted to go to New Orleans and I was like okay and they were like no we’ll take you with us , and I was like okay that’s fine and so yeah, here we are.
As for Debi Welch, she wanted to celebrate her birthday, which was in April, but due to COVID-19, she was never able to celebrate.
“Everyone is so friendly here that’s why we love them, we will be here for a week, it’s amazing every day there is something new to do. I have lived here for 8 years and every time I come here I find something new, ”Welch said.
Over 500 people attended the event.
Krewe of Boo captain Brian Kern said he was happy with the result after missing last year’s Zombie Race.
Kern said more people showed up for the New Orleans Zombie Run this year compared to the previous one.
“Next year for the fifth, I hope to do better and organize a little neighborhood party before the parade,” he added.
