Local roundup: Wilkes-Barre area women’s basketball wins to set up division title game

The Wilkes-Barre area women’s basketball team kept their division title hopes alive.

Behind 12 points from Gloria Adjayi and 11 from Shelby Ardo Boyko, the Wolfpack beat Crestwood 44-32 on Tuesday to set up a showdown with Pittston Area for the WVC Division 1 championship.

The Wolfpack and the Patriots face off at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Wyoming area to award the crown.

Danayhja Moore added nine points for Wilkes-Barre Area. The Comets got 10 points apiece from Julia Glowacki and Grace Pasternick.

West Wyoming Valley 65, Tunkhannock 52

Trailing after a home quarter, the Spartans took control in the second for victory behind 19 points from Trinity Johnson and 18 from Claudia Siegfried. Mackenzie Perluke added 13 for Valley West.

Lexi Corby and Hailey Long led the Tigers with 15 points apiece.

Schuylkill Haven 46, MMI Prep 26

Chloe Allen and Bria Kringe scored 12 points each for the Preppers in a non-conference loss at home.

Nativity 31, Northwest 11

Morgan Hermanofski scored eight points to top Rangers, who trailed 11-3 at halftime and couldn’t recover.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Tunkhannock 66, Berwick 57

Three players did the most damage for the Tigers, as Dylan Mateus scored 22 points while Shane Macko and Ben Chilson each finished with 19 to claim the road win.

Matt Lonczynski led four Bulldogs by double figures with 19 points. Miles Doll scored 11 while Sean Murphy and Ryen Steele had 10 each.

Sem breaks two victory records

Zhantore Akylbekov and Ryleigh Collins already had their home group records in the 100 butterfly. But the two Wyoming Seminary stars managed to improve their grades on the same day.

Akylbekov and the men’s team beat Lake-Lehman 56-29 while Collins and the girls picked up a 76-17 win over the Black Knights.

Collins was first, recording a 58.35 for a new girls’ pool record. Akylbekov followed immediately after with a 50.72 to set the new boys’ pool record.

Amanda McGurk led the Lehman girls with a victory in the 200 individual medley. The boys picked up two wins apiece from Tanner Manzoni (100 breaststroke, 200 IM) and Jackson Kuhar (5o freestyle, 100 backstroke).
