Local roundup: Nanticoke-area boys’ basketball edge ahead of Hanover-area rival
Trailing at halftime, Nanticoke Area gave up just one field goal in the third quarter to take the lead and hold on to a 60-54 win over rival Hanover Area on Thursday in a men’s basketball game. WVC Division 2.
Payton Kepp scored a game-high 21 points while Jaidyn Johnson added 19 and Chris Johnson had 12.
Mike Merth finished with 17 for the Hawkeyes and Jake Zola had 13.
Dallas 62, Crestwood 47
Trailing by one point on the road, the Mountaineers came out of the locker room strong to secure the victory behind 18 points from Mike Bufalino, who scored 13 in the second half.
Nick Nocito (13 points), Austin Finarelli (12) and Mike Cumbo (10) also finished in double digits for Dallas.
Drew Sechleer finished with 12 points to lead the Comets.
Pittston Area 68, Berwick 37
JJ Walsh finished with 20 points while Ethan Ghannam and Dom Jannuzzi each scored nine in a home victory.
Sean Murphy led the Bulldogs with 12 points.
West Wyoming Valley 83, Tunkhannock 58
The Spartans outscored the Tigers 21-5 in the first quarter and never looked back en route to a home win.
Johnathan Mann led five Valley West players in double figures with 25 points, followed by 14 each from Ryan Sullivan and Zach Konopke, 13 from Tyreese Harris and 11 from Kenny Brown.
Tunkhannock got 19 points from Ben Chilson and 14 from Dylan Mateus.
Holy Redeemer 74, MMI Prep 44
Judge Shoats scored 20 points to lead the host Royals to victory. Zach Perta added 17 points while Matt Prociak and Chris Papciak added 10 each.
Chance Eyerly led the Preppers with 16 points.
Wyoming Seminary 46, Lake-Lehman 33
Tied at half-time, the Blue Knights edged the Black Knights 29-16 after the break to win at home. Marc Jackett led the effort, scoring all of his team-high 12 points in the second half.
Lehman’s Cole Morio led all players with 17 points.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Hanover Area 61, MMI Prep 20
Kyleen McCance’s 24 points came from behind the arc, hitting eight threes to lead the Hawkeyes to a home victory. Hanover Area held the Preppers to two points after halftime.
Ally Sheridan and Riley Corbett finished with 13 and 11 points respectively. Bria Kringe scored 12 to lead MMI.

In a game played Wednesday, Riley Baird led three double-digit Trojans with 16 points in a road win. Claire Aufiero followed with 15 points and Grace Reed scored 10.
Leading the Hawkeyes were Ally Sheridan (11 points) and Kyleen McCance (10).
