‘Day of the Dead’ stars Keenan Tracey and Natalie Malaika tease a bloody good time (VIDEO)
Syfy’s latest series The day of the Dead is a living and bloody tribute to zombie icon George A. Romero.
In the 10-episode drama, citizens of a small rural Pennsylvania town face the very first day of a looming zombie apocalypse. Amid the uprising of the living dead, there is the local high school senior’s day, a mayoral election, work in progress at a hydraulic fracturing site and much more. Some city dwellers, of course, will fare better than others.
Two of the many survivors viewers will encounter throughout the series are teenage outcast Cam McDermott (Keenan Tracey) and funeral service worker Lauren Howell (Natalie Malaika). Cam, who helps with the landscaping outside the funeral home, as well as Lauren, will both be nearby during the town’s first encounters with the Risen Dead.
“They have that kind of cheeky relationship,” Tracey says of Cam and Lauren’s relationship. “He obviously has a huge crush on her, and she’s just a little older, a lot cooler, and doesn’t quite see it that way.
“Lauren [got] tunnel vision when she has a goal, ”adds Malaika. And Cam and Lauren will turn to the ultimate goal of any zombie movie: survival. Will they be able to make it through the first day and beyond? Or will the walking dead – and maybe even their fellow lifers – slow them down? (And yes, Cam is the son of a certain The day of the Dead character who has also been revitalized for this series.)
