Booking.com’s seven predictions for reimagining travel in 2023

LONDON, October 17, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Today, Booking.com is releasing travel forecast research that predicts travelers will navigate contradiction and chaos as they adapt to changing times in the year ahead. Amid global upheaval, the digital travel platform reveals that people are experiencing a multi-directional tussle, striving to reconcile what is important.

As the mood shifts from hopeful uncertainty in 2022 to bold adaptability in 2023, some of the predicted trends include:

  1. Preparers in paradise – Some are losing faith in the world and the much-needed frivolous comforts of modern life, with more than half of UK travelers (57%) seeking an ‘off-the-grid’ style holiday to escape reality. Nearly three in five (54%) want to use the trip as an opportunity to learn survival skills and, in some cases, prepare for an apocalypse.
  2. Pleasure in the discomfort zone – Whether it’s bottled energy, pent-up frustration, or a breath of new life, the world is ready to dive into new experiences. Over half (58%) of UK travelers are eager to travel ‘outside their comfort zone’ and as a result we will see an influx of niche experiences allowing people to take travel getaways to the extreme .
  3. Saving to splurge – Although investing in a holiday remains a top priority for 44% of Britons, amid economic uncertainty being budget-conscious is key, with more than three-fifths (62%) looking for more for their money . Despite this, many travelers are still willing to splurge. In 2023, people will use smart savings methods to spend more on the vacation items that matter most to them.
